How to Wash Your Boat Cover or Accessory Bag - by hand or machine
Spot cleaning or to fully clean your cover or accessory bag, we recommend the following procedure:
Brush off any loose dirt or debris.
Wet the cover with a cleaning solution of water and mild soap.
Work the soapy water into the cover with a soft bristled brush.
Rinse well with clear water.
Let dry on or off your boat. (Do not use a dryer.)
Never Dry Clean your Burnham covers or bags.
Machine Washing - for an all over or more thorough cleaning job, you can put the cover or bag in a washing machine. Make sure to zip up any zippers, buckle any buckles, and velcro any velcro.
Brush or shake off any loose dirt or debris.
Machine wash in cold water. Depending on wash load size, use normal amounts of mild laundry detergent and add 1 cup of bleach following machine instructions.
Do not use bleach on Nylon or Aqualon Edge Soft Covers, only Sunbrella or WeatherMAX.
Allow cover or bag to air dry. (Do not use a dryer.)
Never Dry Clean your Burnham covers or bags.
Hand Washing your cover or bag, make sure to velcro any velcro together before you begin.
Brush or shake off any loose dirt or debris.
Soak the cover or bag in a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water.
Use a soft bristle brush to lightly agitate the cover/bag or to work on a particular section.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow fabric to air dry.
Allow cover or bag to air dry. (Do not use a dryer.)
Never Dry Clean your Burnham covers or bags.
Mildew and Stubborn Stains or for Heavy Cleaning
Acrylic fabrics do not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric.
Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of water. Do not use bleach on Nylon or Aqualon Edge Soft Covers, only Sunbrella or WeatherMAX.
Brush or shake off any loose dirt or debris.
Spray cleaning solution on entire area to be treated and allow to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes. You can also soak the cover in this cleaning solution following the Hand Washing instructions above.
Work to remove the stain with a sponge, clean towel, or very soft bristle brush.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
Allow fabric to air dry. (Do not use a Dryer.)
For severe mold/mildew growth, bleach quantities may be increased - only Sunbrella and WeatherMAX fabrics, not Nylon or Aqualon Edge Soft.
Never Dry Clean your Burnham covers or bags.
